Description
The Komatsu WA900-8 is a large wheel loader that meets EU Stage V and is developed for high productivity in quarry and mining operations. Komatsu states that it has the highest productivity in its class. In the model name, 900 refers to the model series and -8 indicates the model generation.
According to the Komatsu WA900-8 product page, the machine has a 672 kW (901 hp) engine, an operating weight of 116.4 tonnes and a tipping load of 63.61 tonnes. Bucket capacity is 11.5–14.5 m³. The WA900-8 is part of the range of Komatsu wheel loaders at Hesselberg.
The engine and aftertreatment system are designed and manufactured by Komatsu and meet EU Stage V. The machine has two diesel particulate filters, two variable geometry turbos (VGT), a heavy-duty cooled exhaust gas recirculation system, new engine control modules and closed crankcase ventilation, and it does not require AdBlue. Komatsu SmartLoader Logic switches automatically between Economy and Power modes and reduces fuel use without losing productivity. The CLSS hydraulic system delivers power on demand via variable-displacement piston pumps and keeps the oil cool. The Auto Idle Shutdown system and eco guidance on the in-cab monitor also help reduce fuel consumption.
The Modulation Clutch system gives the operator precise control of rim pull, with fast work equipment speeds and a smooth approach for truck loading. The Variable Traction Control system optimises rim pull on all ground conditions, minimises tyre slippage and reduces maintenance costs. The machine also has an rpm set function, a PLM meter and EPC control.
The cab is new and enlarged, and Komatsu describes it as the largest ever on a Komatsu wheel loader. It has better ergonomics and low noise levels, a fully adjustable air-suspended, heated and ventilated seat with integrated EPC levers, a colour TFT monitor and a fold-up trainer seat for in-cab training. For less experienced operators, the Auto Digging system, Semi-Auto Approach and Semi-Auto Dump help provide consistent performance.
As standard, Komatsu offers buckets of up to 14.5 m³ with a redesigned spill guard, increased radius and floor angle, ultra-strong teeth and enlarged sweeper wings that reduce tyre damage and maintenance costs.
For increased safety, the machine has KomVision, with five network cameras that create a bird’s-eye view of the surroundings on a dedicated monitor, and an extra rear-view camera with a distance indicator line. Catwalks and handrails on the counterweight are standard, and a hydraulically operated 45° ladder to the cab is available as an option. Service points have anchored tie-off points for lanyards, and safety lockout switches at the rear of the machine can be reached from ground level. An optional service centre gives wireless download of Komtrax Plus data and easier oil servicing and sampling. Komtrax Plus continuously monitors the machine’s settings, condition, fuel usage and performance, and is designed to help prolong its life and optimise production and costs.
If you need a slightly smaller machine, take a look at the WA800-8. The WA900-8 has higher engine output (672 kW vs 638 kW) and can be fitted with larger buckets (up to 14.5 m³ vs 11.5 m³), while tipping load and operating weight are close (63.61 t and 116.4 t vs 63.42 t and 115.53 t).
